Book collection

 

The book collection contains over 5,000 books. These are publications of religious and secular content published by book business companies (printing houses, bookstores), individual writers and various organizations and institutions in the 17th c. - 21st c. A considerable part of the collection consists of missals, prayer books, encyclopedias, textbooks, fiction, information publications in Lithuanian, Russian, Polish, Latin and other languages. Most of them are related to Panevėžys region. The oldest publication is missal in Latin published in 1685. The richest in the collection is a collection of books published between 1918 and 1940.

 

Some of the books are marked with ex-libris, stamps, records, and autographs of institutions, personal libraries or other. The museum stores books of the personal libraries of writer and public figure Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė (1861–1943); physician Andrius Domaševičius (1865–1935), a member of the social democratic movement; composer Antanas Belazaras (1913–1976); historian, doctor of humanities, and a public figure Ona Girčytė-Maksimaitienė (1902–1999); pedagogue Pranas Tamošiūnas (1911–2005); bishop Jonas Kauneckas (born in 1938) and other famous people.
